Data Fact: 10% of the girls who have gotten early pregnancies in Tanzania are educated and 52% of them are uneducated, giving a ratio of 1 out of 6 girls with early pregnancies are educated. Source : Tanzania Demographic Health Survey (TDHS) Pictorial relevance: The picture consists of six silhouette girls in total, of which one at the left hand side with a graduation hat, symbolizes the ratio of girls who have undergone early pregnancy but are educated and the 5 at the right hand side without graduation hats represents the ratio of those without education (illiterate). The education can be formal, that is those who have gone to school, and in schools have been taught about protecting their reproductive health by not engaging themselves in sexual activities at their tender age, or informal education that is granted by parents or guardians at home to their daughters, teaching and advising them on how to take care of themselves and protect their bodies. This must be administered to as we can see that education can be used as a tool to eradicate early pregnancies thus parents, guardians and our teachers should ensure that all young girls have been taught on how to protect themselves and value their bodies. In the picture, there are 6 girl child’s silhouettes from the waist downwards with skirts, symbolizing the 4 children free from sexual abuse but 2 of them without skirts but a hand in the middle symbolizing the ratio of young girls that have been sexually abused whereby there are many cases that have reported in the years , some from very close families that i know surrounding me, i think it is a growing concern that should be dealt with since innocent young girls are affected by this both mentally and psychologically, others acquiring sexual transmitted diseases or getting early pregnancy. It is the responsibility of each and every individual within the society to protect our young girls as they surrounds us each and every day , we are the ones witnessing a potential sexual abuse from the interaction that they daily involve themselves in .
